Love – Forever Changes

I’m listening to Angel’s fourth and final Elektra album Four Sail and it keeps reminding me of early Pink Floyd records and Syd Barrett individual albums but is nowhere in the vicinity of greatness as Forever Changes (though Always See Your Face featured in the High Fidelity movie is pretty spacious).

I got into Love through Forever Changes after seeing it on display in Record Stop and thinking “reissue of a band I’ve never heard of! incredible!” Those were the days when one could throw money at things they’d never heard and thankfully this was in my formative listening years. Forever Changes is really the only Love album I truly enjoy listening to but because it is so great I periodically and systematically will give Arthur Lee another vaccination though never with great success.

What I like about Forever Changes is that it evokes a pastiche of beauty, strangeness, claustrophobia, great vibes and delusional paranoia. The album’s first two tracks, Alone Again Or and A Undertaking Is Not A Hotel set the scene: the wonder and excitement of the dawning of the moment’s youthfulness and the personal alienation and fierce fear floating around the edges of this optimism which bled right through the music.

“Yeah, I heard a remarkable thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love with almost everyone”

“And the waters turned to blood, and if
You dont come up with so
Go turn on your tub
And it its mixed with mud
You’ll see it turn to gray”

It is truly a record of its’ times, recorded during the Summer of Adulation in 1967 and released just after the Summer had expired in November of that year and the music reflects the changing of the seasons throughout. It was made by a pack that evoked a lot of the mysticism of the San Francisco scene but was based in Los Angeles where Forever Changes was also recorded and where the spirit had less to do with group vibes than deprecating survival. The fact that Arthur Lee and some of his cohorts had personal demons to struggle with probably also added to the music’s relistenability and hanker term intrigue.

How does the book The Truth About Forever change your perspective on life?

I am longhand a paper on the Truth about Forever, and need ideas on how it changes the perspective on life. Can you help me with any ideas you might have?

First off, be certain to relate it to your own personal life. And what you think of forever.
For me though, it made me realize that I won't be in this world for forever. I am not infinite and I am not perfect, nor will I ever be. I found it very lenient to relate to Macy, as went through a change over the summer, and could empathize with her situation. She was so fearful of viability, of making the wrong decision, of not being good enough for everyone else that she forgot to stop and be happy every so often. Instead, she would put on a farce and make everyone believe she was "fine, just fine." This makes me earn that people will not assume anything of me. If I tell them I am fine, then that is all they will know, and I cannot hope for them to reach out to me and give me the help I order. Dessen stated "Don't be afraid. Be alive." This basically describes what Macy had to learn to do. Once she in the long run pushed through that barrier of being afraid of everything, she was able to be more than "fine, just fine" and absolutely be happy. Taking this advice, it makes me realize that fear will hold any person back from enjoying their autobiography. If one lives in fear, then that is all they will ever know. You are only alive once and only young once. You have to make the most of the time you have on this Earth because every blemished that you spend in fear is a second you will never get back. It is a second you may have wasted by not being happy.

That's just one of the things I got from the log after rereading it this week.
Flip through the book and find quotes (When I reread it I made sure to write down all of the quotes I loved from the work and got a whole bunch of quotes. A lot of them would definitely be perfect for your paper) Just using the quotes and tying them together would give you enough to fussy on in your paper.

Have fun with your paper =)
