i dont prerequisite to sit too high or too low at my vanity, which is 54 inches high. I need to know a good height measurement to look for in a vanity stool.

In indefinite, the difference between the flat surface and the stool should be 12". 54" is not the top surface of the vanity, I'm guessing. The top should be in the neighborhood of 30-36", which would use a stool 18-24". Count this helps.
