Why are the ceilings on every house not smooth but have those rugged white powdery stuff on them?

I noticed that in most houses, the ceilings of the rooms have those corpse-like powdery rugged or bumpy stuff on them. Why don't they just make the ceilings flat and smooth? What is the doggedness of that white powdery bumpy stuff on our ceilings? When i touch them they just crack and fall down creating a mess on the territory.
Popcorn ceilings are acquainted with for two reasons:
-they are cheap
-But, mostly it is because they stop echoes and absorb some sound. It is kinda like in schools and big buildings, they have holes in their ceilings to take away some tough.

How do you travel with eye shadow?

I buy eye tail in a little jar and when I put it in my bag it breaks up and is just a powdery mess. How do you keep eye shadow from doing that?
I've never seemed to have this dilemma.
Do you just drop it in the bottom of your bag? If so, then maybe put it in a makeup bag with the rest of your makeup.
Oh, and stop beating people with your lolly! :-P
